In September 2017, LASS Pty Ltd obtained commercial rights to the Queenscliff Blue Water Challenge Event with a commercial arrangement in place to donate money back to the Borough Coutas Swimming Club.Each year, the event directors select two beneficiaries to donate 100% of proceeds too; one local community cause, charity or community initiative will receive 50 percent of all proceeds. The remaining 50% of proceeds will support a national cause, charity or nationally recognised initiative.THE DIRECTORSIn September 2017, Liam Petrie-Allbutt and Sam Sheppard teamed up to resurrect the historic Blue Water Challenge open water swim. The aim was to save the popular swim from retirement and maintain its rich history in the Borough of Queenscliffe and wider Bellarine community.GOALSTo promote the Borough of Queenscliffe and Bellarine Peninsula as a tourist destination.To generate a sustainable revenue stream for community beneficiaries, charities and community initiatives.Ensure this successful event continues to be feasible and sustainable in the Borough of Queenscliffe for the community.- Promote health fitness and well being.- Promote swimming, water safety, and water awareness in the community.- Promote a family friendly community eventTHE OPPORTUNITIESAmend the swimming course to be a 180 degree perimeter arch swim from the car ferry terminal beach around the pier, finishing at the Queenscliff beach car park. This initiative will provide swim conditions which are more achievable for the whole family. The swim will no longer be a "challenge (the blue water challenge)" but an all-ages, family friendly swim.A sustainable restructure of swim operations are in motion to engage wider community groups. The aim is to provide an opportunity for other local smaller volunteer and raise money for their community organisations including: Rotary; Coast Guard; Primary Schools; The Red Cross; Tennis club's; The Museums; and Surf Life Saving Clubs.
