The RADIANCE senior capstone project designed and manufactured a 3U CubeSat-style payload to collect solar irradiance data, images, attitude information, and ambient atmospheric data for a high-altitude balloon flight. The team of nine undergraduates characterized the payload's flight readiness by performing system tests in both a thermal vacuum and environmental chamber. The RADIANCE project was sponsored by the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Roles on the team included Project Manager, Systems Engineer, and leads for the following subsystems: Electrical Power and Distribution System, Thermal Control System, Structural & Manufacturing, Flight Software, Command & Data Handling, Test & Safety, Instrumentation, and Attitude Determination System.
