Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of historically uncommon rainfall events. The flooding caused by these severe downpours causes untreated wastewater to discharge or spill into our water bodies, sewage back-ups into our homes and businesses, damage to infrastructure, the safety of the public to be put at risk and wash garbage and pollutants such as oil, lawn fertilizers, and animal waste into our waterways. Rain It In is a student design competition where post-secondary students are invited to form multi-disciplinary teams to solve a real world problem. Teams will create innovative solutions that will mitigate the impacts of intense rainfall events and harvest rain water as a resource, with assistance to implement their innovation in their community.
