THE PROBLEM More than 50 percent of the children in our small community of Jaco, Costa Rica have only one parent at home – many raised by single mothers who work 6 days a week. At an average wage of $500 to $600 a month, daycare is unaffordable. That leaves so many 4- to 15-year old children unsupervised for many hours a day – especially after school, weekends, and during the summer – not an ideal environment for learning and growth. THE SOLUTION Your donation will go to ensuring these children have a safe, fun, supervised environment to play soccer after school, weekends, and during summer. These are the times that children are at the highest risk for becoming victimized or drawn into negative activities. We want to help these children reach their full potential – to enjoy rich full lives as productive, caring, and responsible members of our community. What makes the most impact on a child's future? Education and the people they spend time with. Through our leadership and futbol programs, we provide: ~ ~ A safe, fun environment – to keep children off the streets and away from drugs and criminal activities during times they'd otherwise be unsupervised. ~ ~ Programs to nurture, educate, and inspire these beautiful young children, led by amazing coaches and teachers. ~ ~ Standards of Excellence program to empower our children to become the leaders of tomorrow, graduate from high school, and attend college. And we'll be building Jaco's First Futbol Club along with a 100,000-square foot complex with new futbol fields, classrooms and technology center for the entire community to enjoy.
