In 2006 Joseph McCormick organized a team of political bridge builders called Reuniting America. He was able to convene a 4 day private leadership retreat in the mountains of Colorado. The subject was Energy Security and Climate Change. Al Gore and many other leaders in the environmental, free market, conservative and evangelical communities were able to spend relaxed, quality time exploring what united and divided them.Reuniting America was reorganized in 2008 into the Transpartisan Alliance which focuses on grassroots dialogue. Joseph then organized the first American Citizen Summit which was attended by about 100 people including leaders from many of the organizations who had participated in the previous Reuniting America events. Last fall the Transpartisan Alliance launched the Campaign to Unite the US and began planting seeds for local Citizen Leaders Councils and Citizen Assemblies in Portland, Seattle, Fresno, and the Florida Keys.Recently Joseph has collaborated with political scientist and comedian Steve Bhaerman in writing an ebook called Reuniting America: A Toolkit for Changing the Political Game. The book has 27 proven principles and practices for changing the "divide and conquer" political game by the next presidential election. The book explains practical ways to organize groups of citizens to come up with solutions to real world problems, that legislators will not be able to ignore.
