Nonprofit Organization Management - , ,
Formed in 2006 by a group of University of Central Florida students led by Chris Goyzueta, Rock for Hunger was organized as a vehicle for raising awareness of the issues facing homeless individuals and at-risk children, inspiring hope and change in the face of extraordinary challenges through the power of music. As the organization has grown and evolved, it has remained true to that mission, and has expanded to provide value in the community in three ways:1. Community Awareness: continuing to raise awareness in the community, as well as motivating others through inspirational stories of success, using musical events as a way to bring the community together. We also offer opportunities for people to volunteer (see programs listed below), as well as a college intern program.2. Monday Evening Food Sharing: Every Monday, Rock for Hunger has provided a warm meal to over 100 people in downtown Orlando for three years, with special events around Thanksgiving and Christmas. We regularly draw over 30 volunteers every week.3. Li'l Rock Stars: Rock for Hunger has partnered with New Image Youth Center in downtown Orlando, and sponsors regular events such as weekly tutoring and summer field trips. In addition, the first annual Rock for Hunger College Scholarship will be awarded at this year's Rock for Hunger Festival as an element of the Li'l Rock Starsprogram.Every life is a story, and stories of success inspire EVERYONE! At Rock for Hunger, we look to spread those stories, leveraging the motivational effect of music in driving change throughout the community. Overall, we look to end homelessness and the cycle of poverty, one story at a time.
