International Affairs - Rome, Lazio, Italy
Rome Consensus 2.0 is a humanitarian drug policy alliance: a call from professionals to governments to make urgent moves towards health and human rights based approaches. The alliance is powered by International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (IFRC), the Italian Red Cross (CRI), Villa Maraini Foundation, C4 Recovery Foundation, The Levenson Foundation, The Knowmad Institut and The Police, Treatment, and Community Collaborative (PTACC).Our main goal is mostly focused on the urgency to decrease the harm for people affected by addictions. We aim to reduce the side effects caused by social, legal and cultural criminalization and stigmatization of people that use drugs or are living with infectious diseases. We focus our action to facilitate their access to treatment. In the same time our advocacy role is to give to those groups a voice, represent their needs, empower them so they can fight with us for their universal right to be treated as humans and treated as patients. The Rome Consensus 2.0 plans to organize a series of meetings to promote discussion and then action on the Consensus Statement which has been designed to bring together Civil Society Organizations, leaders, experts and public authorities from across the world to explore ways to effectively combine humanitarian attitude in health, criminal justice, prevention and community responses to addiction.
