Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) Ottawa keeps families of seriously ill children together and close to the care they need. With over 70% of Canadians living in a city without a children's hospital, families often must travel hundreds of kilometers for treatment and support, and are faced with new financial demands, job insecurity, and a healing journey that can take months…or even years. This is where Ronald McDonald House Charities can lend a helping hand. Over 30,000 families from over 1,800 communities across Canada are supported by a Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Room or Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® each year. Over 37 years, RMHC Canada has cared for 321,393 Canadian families in their time of need and we continue to be the pioneer behind family-centered care. Since 1984, RMHC Ottawa (RMHCO) has been committed to keeping families of sick children close: close to each other and close to the care they need. While creating a warm, safe, and affordable environment in our 14-bedroom House, we provide families with an overwhelming sense of comfort, as we are only 167 short steps to the front doors of CHEO. Our House has been called home to over 13,600 families from all over Ontario, with our greatest population traveling from Northern Ontario. A Ronald McDonald Family Room is a family-centered program of Ronald McDonald House Charities that is set within a hospital and replicates a piece of home. RMHCO offers 2 Family Rooms within CHEO; one open to families of both in-patients and out-patients and the second is a secure room for families with a child in the ICU. In 2017, our rooms welcomed over 26,000 visits from families who are both local and from afar.
