Nonprofit Organization Management - San Antonio, Texas, United States
Each year the San Antonio Book Festival (SABF) features 100+ authors and their newly published books at the Central Library and Southwest School of Art, bringing books to life through author presentations, stimulating panel discussions, and book sales and signings. Readers and writers unite at this "Fiesta of the mind," which is offered free of charge as a gift to residents and visitors of San Antonio. In addition to its signature event, SABF offers year-round literary programming with its GET LIT Author Series, which brings authors to communities outside of the annual festival. With its educational initiative, Authors in Schools, SABF impacts students throughout Bexar County by placing award-winning writers in Title I schools to deliver presentations that will encourage and promote reading. Each student in attendance receives a signed copy of the writer's book. Over its ten-year history, SABF has presented 979 authors from across the nation and distributed more than 11,880 books to students at the Festival and in Title 1 schools, motivating more of San Antonio's citizens to develop a love of reading.
