Sanday Development Trust is a Third Sector organisation working to improve the lives of our community on the island of Sanday, Orkney. We aim to create an economically prosperous, sustainable community that is connected to the wider world, but to remain a safe, unspoilt environment where people are proud to live, able to work, to bring up and educate their children, to fulfill their own hopes and ambitions, and to grow old gracefully, enjoying the quality of life that is second to none.Our work includes the development of a £3.2M housing development for the care of our elderly. We have taken vacant buildings into community ownership to renovate and redevelop into valuable assests for our island and community. We operate a number of island facilities and services including a Community, Youth and Visitor Hub, Heritage Centre, Community Garden, ReUse shop and Community Wellbeing services. As a Community Anchor Organisation, we work closely with government organisations and Orkney Islands Council to deliver support and services to our island community. This included a range of financial support during the Covid crisis and the provision of online services and carefully managed services such as a 'Bubble Café'We secure funding and provide funding for vital and much-needed services on Sanday.Our group of companies includes SECIC which provides a community bus service between the ferry terminal and residents homes. SRCIC is an income-generating company that invested (thourgh a loan) in renewable energy to provide funding for our core services. The remainder of our income is secured through external funding.
