Mixed Migration and Forced Displacement are amongst the defining global issues of the early twenty-first century, attracting unprecedented interest amongst politicians, policy makers, international organizations and the general public. This increased focus is perhaps unsurprising: displacement is at its highest since the end of the Second World War. The debate is fast moving, complex and politically charged, linking powerful underlying issues relating to human rights, international economics, governance and a globalized world.In 2016, Save the Children therefore established its Migration and Displacement Initiative (MDI) - a compact, multidisciplinary team, which exists as a catalyst ‘unit' specifically designed to drive forward knowledge, programming and policy work on child focused M&D within Save the Children in a targeted number of priority areas.
