Civic & Social Organization - Seattle, Washington, United States
Often in life, we see that it's the greatest helpers among us who do not seek to have their own needs met. The men and women who make up the Seattle Fire Department stand at the ready to help any member of our community, at any moment – and we wanted to form a foundation to help them. The Seattle Fire Foundation will raise money to help equip Seattle firefighters with the tools they need to support our community's changing dynamics – from providing ballistic gear to training to firehouse necessities and preserve our history. Specifically, our first priority is providing ballistic gear, in the form of protective vests and helmuts much like police officers wear. Roughly 85-percent of the calls Seattle firefighters respond to have nothing to do with a fire – and as we've seen recently, those calls can become dangerous. Our goal in year one is to provide 250 number of protective vests, and with the help of donations from community members and organizations, we intend to do that. Beyond ballistic gear, we also see a need to help provide funds for training. School-based curriculum around fire safety is no longer provided. So, the programs you and I grew up with like Stop-Drop-and-Roll and other emergency preparedness programs are no longer taught – we'd like to fund training programs to help future generations be prepared. Chief Scoggins and his department put their lives on the line every day to help make Seattle and our citizens safe – and we are honored to come along side them to provide the help they need.To help the Seattle Fire Foundation raise the funds needed to provide our firefighters the ballistic gear they need, please visit www.seattlefirefoundation.org to make a donation.
