Founded in 2013 by two high school students, Semicolon Theatre Company was initiated with the sole purpose of creating a professional space where theatre artists and administrators aged 21 and under could hone their craft and collaborate with their like-minded peers. By producing and creating theatre by young people, we have the unique opportunity to cater to the emotions and artistic aspirations of a population whose voices are severely lacking from the world of accessible, professional theatre. Semicolon Theatre Company is a place where young people can develop their stories among peers and be able to identify with what they see on stage. But it doesn't only serve young people. Adults with more life experience come to see our productions in order to gain insight about issues young people, theatre, and both together. After a couple of successful seasons, Semicolon has remained true to its original mission, and has starting working on expanding. Instead of being solely a production company, Semicolon is planning some masterclasses with professionals in the field, workshops, as well as collaborations with other young companies. Thus far, we've produced two separate seasons at recognized Off-Off Broadway theaters in Manhattan. Between January of 2014 to June of 2015, we have worked directly alongside twenty-eight artists, administrators, designers, and technicians aged 11 and up. Since January of 2014, there have been four full productions, two staged readings, and one workshop. Something that differentiates Semicolon from other young peoples' companies is that we pay everyone for their work. While we also work towards becoming creative and artistic home, we also strive for the utmost level of professionalism.
