Nonprofit Organization Management - Gilbert, Arizona, United States
Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona was established in 1991 with five families that gathered to "share" the joys and challenges of raising a child with Down syndrome. Our mission is to educate, empower, but especially give hope to families who love a child with Down syndrome. We promote positive acceptance and understanding, and inclusion is embraced by all as we celebrate each life. There is never an easy way to be told that one's newborn or unborn baby will have a disability. We provide professionals our New Parent Welcome Folders so the news is delivered in a compassionate and positive way. These folders are filled with relevant and uplifting information regarding Down syndrome. Once we receive authorization, a trained volunteer delivers a New Parent Support Package filled with even more resources to help these new families become powerful advocates for their child. We currently reach out to 5,100 families in Arizona, and last year we contacted 170 new families. Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona has been the recipient of the Channel 12 Who Care Award, the Golden Rule from Governor Jan Brewer, and has been recognized by the US Local Business Association's as Best of Gilbert Support Groups.
