Nonprofit Organization Management - Cebu City, Central Visayas, Philippines
The movement is known as Sistemang Pilipino (SP). It has brought a range of individuals and organizations together, with its mission of uplifting children and their communities through music. It is SP's hope that through its programs, children not only learn to express themselves musically, but that they develop a love for life that inspires them to excel in their chosen fields within or beyond music, and to be of service to the country. Teachers, staff and volunteers have witnessed the impact SP's programs have had on a number of participants – at the orphanage, mainly from fighting and getting in to trouble with the other children to peer teaching and cooperation. It is our hope that this movement be given the chance to grow and flourish, reaching the remotest parts of our country, giving children a voice and a future. The typical length of a child's training with Sistemang Pilipino is 5 years to 15 years and the age range is from 3 to 18.Main beneficiaries of our program come from three communities: SOS Children's Village, Zapatera Elementary School (ZES), and Barangay Ermita. There are two phases for our program each year: Phase I (intensive summer training) and Phase II (regular school year training). During both phases, children receive training in choir or orchestra performance, and are provided with workshops in values formation and in other artistic disciplines such as visual arts. The main goals of our program are intellectual, artistic and moral/spiritual development. We also provide music teacher training programs for teachers/musicians within our program, and those from public schools and educational institutions who wish to develop their pedagogical skills in music.Through our outreach concerts, we bring our mission and music to various audiences, with the intention of uplifting and inspiring them to join us in our stand for social action through music.
