SKALVIJA Cinema Center is a small (1 screen and 88 seats) art-house cinema situated in central Vilnius. Small but cosy, it is well known amongst film lovers for its distinctive repertoire. The programming focuses on non-commercial European and World cinema, both classics and recent film. SKALVIJA is the major venue for cinematic events – festivals, meetings with filmmakers, retrospectives, special screenings. Distribution of European film is another important activity at SKALVIJA. The Cinema Center has recently distributed "The White Ribbon" (dir. Michael Haneke, Austria, 2009), "Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque)" (dir. Joann Sfarr, France, 2010) and other titles. The cinema is a member of two networks – Europa Cinemas and CICEA.SKALVIJA is very keen on providing young people with an opportunity to learn more about film and filmmaking. Education is one of the key activities at SKALVIJA. Each year, different courses on scriptwriting, directing, editing and film history are organised, classroom activities are complemented by week-long outdoor filmmaking workshops.The management team of SKALVIJA is open for any kind of cooperation with other cinemas, distributors, producers, project managers, or people who are passionately in love with film.
