Who we are.Smart Politics is a progressive alternative to the politics of division. Our members are political activists and concerned citizens who understand that treating all people with respect and tolerance improves the quality of democratic discourse and makes us more powerful advocates for the causes we care about.What we believe.Smart Politics is founded on the idea that all people are capable of changing their minds about politics. However, when individuals feel they or their beliefs are under attack, they will dig in and not consider alternative perspectives. To encourage real opinion change, we must first make people feel safe.What we do.Smart Politics teaches progressives how to communicate more productive and persuasive with people across the political spectrum without compromising our ideals or values. We facilitate opinion change by helping people engage in safe conversations where open-mindedness, rationality, and self-reflection can flourish.What we teach.At the heart of our approach is the Radical Conversation Cycle (RCC). The RCC is a five-step process we developed to help progressives have productive and persuasive conversations with people they disagree with. The five steps of the RCC are: ask, listen, reflect, agree, and share.What we offer.Smart Politics offers webinars and workshops to trains progressives across the country how to communicate more effectively.
