The Society of Aspiring Minority Physician Leaders is a mentoring community created to increase diversity in medical leadership. There is a shortage of diverse doctors among clinical, academic and business leaders. Downstream effects of this problem are a lack of a strong political voice and a shortage of role models on every level. These invisible barriers impede the advancement of diversity and inclusion in health professions.Our mission is to:1) Raise awareness about doctors underrepresented in leadership (UIL).2) Empower diverse students and doctors to become physician leaders and eradicate these invisible barriers.Increasing diversity in medical leadership will fundamentally change how underserved communities interact with the medical machine at large.
