Architecture & Planning - Brighton, England, United Kingdom
The South Down Project is a group of local stakeholders who are attempting to do something laudable, practical and deliverable with the site of the Shoreham Cement Works in the South Downs National Park.We are working with local stakeholders, influencers, and key organisations to bring a brand new development to the Cement Works and its Chalk Pit. Unlike most other major developments in the UK, the South Down Project is STARTING with the needs of the local communities, businesses and families. So it has an unusually large proportion of Community, Social, Cultural and Landscaping gain.We have a Concept Plan and funders that want to work with us to deliver that as an Outline Plan for Planning Approval. And we are negotiating with the Option Holder of the land to form a Special Purpose Vehicle that will then work with the South Downs National Park to deliver new homes, new jobs and significant regeneration. The figures look like this: NEW HOMES - 2,200; JOBS DURING CONSTRUCTION - 1,500; NEW (PERMANENT) JOBS - 4,400; POTENTIAL REGENERATION - £90million per annum for the next 10 years.More than anything, the South Down Project will deliver a reflection of what the local communities and key stakeholders want to see in the site, so if you fit either of those categories, and you have opinions about what you'd like to see, then please let us know.
