The Southeast Hemp Association (SEHA) currently represents growers, processors, retailers, and ancillary service providers and plans to coordinate with existing hemp trade organizations to ensure consistency in messaging and goals. With 600 members from seven different states, the SEHA works to build the supply chain across the bioregion for the industry and promote best practices and standards for all facets of hemp, from plant to process to product. The Southeast Hemp Association is a 501 (c)(6) trade association that was originally formed as the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association (NCIHA) in 2015. The NCIHA was not only responsible for the lobbying effort behind the passage of the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Pilot Program, but also for providing continuing industry education, training, and updated information for all members. After expanding their membership into seven different states, the NCIHA believed it was time to take a bio-regional approach to building the hemp industry. In July of 2020 the Voting Members of the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association approved the resolution to transition into the Southeast Hemp Association. On November 18, 2020, the SEHA issued an official press release announcing this transition.
