Spark is a service of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network www.ccednet-rcdec.ca Spark seeks to match community organizations in Winnipeg with volunteers who have specialized skills. Community groups and organizations are experts at connecting with their communities and improving their social, economic and environmental conditions. Because this work is demanding, these groups may not be able to find the time or financial resources to help fill certain gaps in expertise they need to strengthen their existing organization or get a new project started. Similarly, people who are trained in specific skills are experts in their own profession, and may be seeking to somehow ‘make a difference' in their community. The Latin phrase "pro bono," to do work for the public good, suggests professionals have been working in this way for centuries! When Spark matches community groups with volunteers who have specialized skills, a "spark" happens. The "spark" strengthens the organization, and connects volunteers to a good cause. Ultimately, this helps to build stronger, healthier, and more sustainable individuals, families and communities in Winnipeg.
