Sports Connect Canada is a Not for Profit creating programs to increase refugee/immigrant youth integration through the use of sport. We are creating a space for youth between the ages of 10-14 to meet people from the community and build peer relations. The integration process must be driven by the receiving community because without us, those individuals would not be able to integrate into this society. Our programs are designed to promote positive peer engagement. A place where youth can be themselves without the cultural and language barriers. Sports are unique in this situation. Sports in themselves have their own language their own culture that is why you can go anywhere in the world and join a soccer game without speaking that specific language. This is what we are providing, the first step towards inclusions, a first step towards feeling like they belong, a first step towards feeling they are wanted.Currently, in our community, we are lacking this form of integration, especially in programs for this age group. The short and long term benefits these programs could have could drastically aid any youth that becomes part of the program. For this to occur we need the community to come together and help create a space where youth can feel like they have found a place where they belong.
