Stanford University Dance Marathon (SUDM) is one of the most well-established student-run philanthropies in the nation, as well as the largest student-run philanthropic event in the Bay Area. Every February, more than 2000 students dance for 24 consecutive hours to raise money for a charitable health-focused organization. SUDM is a collection of individuals with a common set of goals, working to champion the local fight for affordable, accessible healthcare. Since its founding in 2005, SUDM has raised over $1 million for 5 beneficiaries (Partners in Health Rwanda, Young Positives, Ellipse, FACE AIDS, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation). In 2017, we are so excited to be benefitting the Uncompensated Care program within the Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH). The Bass Center is a treatment center relentlessly committed to providing care for every child. The Center's mission is threefold: extraordinary care, continual learning, and breakthrough discoveries. Lucile Salter Packard, the founder of LPCH, aimed to ‘heal humanity through science and compassion, one child and family at a time.' LPCH's values of collaboration, advancement, respect, education, and service ensure that Lucile Salter Packard's vision is realized by nurturing both the body and the soul of every child.SUDM works to create a formative and defining experience for so many loving, empathetic, passionate DMers in the Stanford community. Everyone involved, from dancers to performers, musicians, technicians, professors, and speakers, joins together in the fight against pediatric cancer! We are committed to spreading awareness about childhood cancer and blood diseases and helping the Bass Center in its fight to improve the lives of children and their families, because they deserve the best care possible!
