The Sustainable Agriculture Centre for Research, Education and Development in Africa (SACRED Africa) was established in 1997 and works practically with smallholder farmers in Africa to improve agricultural productivity and incomes while conserving and enhancing the environment. The NGO which is registered in Kenya but works regionally, works practically with farmers to Research, Develop, and Disseminate improved Soil fertility, Marketing and Seed technologies. The NGO also works with universities to provide internship and mentor-ship opportunities for undergraduate agriculture students to work with employers within the agriculture sector such as private companies, NGOs, Manufacturers, large and small scale farms, County and Government agencies among others.We also work with universities to mentor, support and provide masters and doctoral students with scholarships and practical skills to ensure that their research impacts positively on smallholder production systems. We train students in proposal development, researching with farmers, team work, thesis preparation, scientific writing, data management, communication skills and team work as well as leadership. We work with University professors and supervisors to train and build their capacity in student supervision, project management, proposal development, networking and collaboration, researching with farmers and developing policies for national development.We currently work with universities, farmers and other stakeholders in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Namibia and Botswana. We promote student exchange programs across countries and also manage student scholarships for undergraduate (internship and mentor ship), masters and doctoral training.
