We are protein engineers working to solve the problems of unhealthy and environmentally damaging sunscreens. All available sunscreen active ingredients absorb through our skin, interfering with hormones and also exacerbating UV damage. Once washed down the drain, 14,000 tons of these chemicals accumulate in sensitive marine environments each year, where even the "reef safe" versions threaten endangered corals and other marine life. Sóliome has reinvented sunscreens, an $18 billion global market. We are developing effective bio-inspired sunscreens that are safe for all of life, provide broad-spectrum protection, and that feel great on skin.
