Food Production - Carloforte, Sardegna, Italy
The Tanca Gioia Carloforte Winery is located in Carloforte, on the island of San Pietro (Sardinia). Here are produced the wines U-Tabarka. The landscape is characterized by rugged and wild coastline with a picturesque waterfront and a riot of colors and scents of the Mediterranean scrub. The winery Tanca Gioia unique to the island, was founded in year 2000 thanks to the courage of the two founders. they took advantage of the very favorable climatic conditions and the composition of the volcanic soil and decided to grow, in the vineyards spread over multiple levels, only indigenous and traditional grapes such as Vermentino di Sardegna, Carignano, Bovale (Bovaleddu), Moscato di Sardegna and the Nasco Aromatico. The company is well suited for important red wines, but proposes some white wines decidedly original and interesting as the "Perdigiournou" (dry wine assembly of Vermentino, Moscato and Nasco grapes) or "Giancu", pure Vermentino. With the curious name of "U-Tabarka" given its wines, the company wants to pay homage to the history of their land: the name derives from Tabarka, a Tunisia's village famous as a colony of Genoese fishermen who had to abandon it in year 1738, then moved on Island of San Pietro (Sardinia, Italy). Carloforte village still reminds us of the Liguria's villages: the dialect very similar to Genoese dialect and closely packed buildings, similar to the Ligurian alleys.
