Tegla Loroupe is a long-distance runner from Kenya. She was the first African woman to win the New York marathon in 1994 and subsequently went on to win many major long-distance races and marathons around the world. In 2003 she founded the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation and has been an active advocate for peace. She was the Chef de Mission for the first IOC Refugee Olympic Team Rio 2016 a role she will reprise at Tokyo 2020.Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation uses sports as a tool for socio-economic development.The Foundation envisions "A Peaceful, Prosperous and Just World in which Sports is a Unifying factor"The Main purpose of the Foundation is to support and further initiatives that promote conflict resolution, peace building and poverty reduction initiatives that enhance livelihoods and resilience of poor people affected by and vulnerable to conflicts and civil strife in the world. TLPF MAIN Objectives To support innovative activities that Promotes conflict resolution, peace building for conflict transformation, Democracy, poverty reduction initiatives and Education in the GHA region.
