Philanthropy - Fremont, Nebraska, United States
Our mission is to educate youth through film workshops and programs and expand film opportunities in Nebraska as well as throughout the world for Nebraska film professionals. Digg Site gives area youth local opportunities to gain film industry experience and skills that will serve them throughout their lifetime. Our programming objectives are designed to engage the community in a continuum of arts, culture, and community building through documentary film. Our youth and young adult programs offer exposure to the power of storytelling through film as well as provides technical training and job skill development with hands on experience. Our community programs offer a chance for the wider community to engage with our agency, our student film makers, local experts, and provides a forum for discourse using the content of films produced by students and other national and local film productions to drive education and discussion. The Digg Site has also undertaken the renovation of the historic Empress Theater in Historic Downtown Fremont, focused on restoring it to its original glory as a theatrical art house. The Empress will feature a wide range of films including first releases, classics, artistic motion pictures, documentaries, and experiential movies. Renovating the Empress Theater will further beautify and enhance Main Street and Fremont's historic downtown area, and keep the rich, unique history of Fremont, the region, and the state of Nebraska alive. The Empress will also serve as The Digg Site's headquarters, making the nonprofit and its resources more readily accessible to residents, visitors, and community partners. The space will also be home to our free film workshops, camps, and educational offerings for area youth. Further, The Empress will stand as a unique, creative space that provides a stage for the diverse storytelling traditions of authors, artists, musicians, and filmmakers.
