Nonprofit Organization Management - London, England, United Kingdom
TEAMS (The East African Missionary Society) is a Christian organisation dedicated to working with families, children, adults and organisations in East Africa, predominately in the Northern part of Uganda. We are a registered UK charity with a Ugandan NGO status and have had a presence in Uganda for over 17 years. When we began working in Gulu, it was a war-torn area caused primarily by conflict with the Lord's Resistance Army, resulting in many of the locals being placed or moving into IDP camps for safety or as their homes were destroyed. As people were eventually released from these camps TEAMS provided support for orphans of the conflict; Luo, the local language and English literacy for adults who needed the basic skills to get by and health education to teach basic skills of caring for themselves and their community. The work of TEAMS seeks to address the need for innovative solutions to the challenges of re-settlement and provide qualified health workers, livelihood programs as well as access to skills development and education necessary to foster sustainable development in Northern Uganda. A key aim of our development initiatives is the restoration of community and societal well being that is both sustainable and reproducible as embodied in some of our key outcomes: Education, Health, Agriculture. We work with local organisations and churches with a view to transform individuals and regional communities by implementing and running training programmes. We are also heavily involved in developing educational, health, agricultural and enterprise projects. We currently focus on five main areas of work:• Enterprise• Health• Education• Prison Outreach• Church Development. For the relevant areas, where possible, we are trying to enable the community in Gulu to become self-sustaining over the next couple of years."The need is the vision, the going is the commission"
