The Floresta Group of companies was acquired in 2017 and subsequently disestablished. WHO WE WEREThe Floresta Group of companies was a social and environmental enterprise established to put private sector finance and knowhow behind government-led, citizen-shaped plans to reduce deforestation and build inclusive green economies. The company's mission was to enhance the welfare of current and future generations through the rehabilitation and sustainable stewardship of forest landscapes. It pursued this mission through commercial strategies that increase economic incentives and practical opportunities for sustainable land management.WHAT WE DIDFloresta's government partners had spent years working with civil society and other stakeholders to identify the drivers of forest degradation and loss. On this basis, they had fashioning robust strategies for positive change that include policy reform, institutional reform, strengthened tenure and land-use rights, community empowerment, the improvement of traditional livelihoods and green economic development. Most of these changes had to be led by government authorities, often with civil society support. However, some crucial changes - such as transitioning to truly sustainable supply chains - required private sector involvement. That's where Floresta came in. The company successfully used the green economy as a tool to create shared value in sustainable forestry, renewable energy and environmental services.
