Newspapers - Ormstown, QC, CA
Founded in 1863, the Huntingdon Gleaner was owned by various family businesses for most of its history. Even though it was a private business, local ownership conveyed the title of ‘community newspaper' as was typical across Canada. As happened with the majority of print media outlets around that time, TheGleaner became part of a larger chain in 1985, and saw various owners over the years. In 2018, the owner, Gravité Média, reached out to the local community to see if there was any interest in acquiring the title. Shortly thereafter, a non-profit organization was formed to revive the publication and return it to its roots as a true community newspaper. The June 5, 2019 relaunch of The Gleaner with a souvenir print edition served as an important step towards regular publication in order to serve the residents of Quebec's Chateauguay Valley again. Five editions were published that year and distributed at no charge to local residents at community events. In January 2020, The Gleaner began publishing on a biweekly basis. It is distributed via Canada Post to paid subscribers and available for purchase at retailers around the Chateauguay Valley.
