We are a small local charity and we exist to help families in crisis following their child's diagnosis of cancer. When a child is diagnosed, the family's world falls apart leaving a devastating impact. Everything the family knows suddenly becomes uncertain as they face months and years of grueling treatment. The diagnosis has a massive financial consequence on parents as often one or both parents need to give up work or take unpaid leave to care for their sick child but the mortgage/council tax /other normal household expenditure don't go away. To assist with this, we support families when their child is on treatment by awarding financial hardship grants. These grants can be for a host of reasons such as rent or mortgage payments, everyday living costs, travel costs to hospital or sadly help towards funeral costs. All the families we work with are receiving their treatment at the Regional Paediatric Oncology Centre at Southampton General Hospital, together with shared care at their local hospitals such as Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.
