EYECARE PROJECT FOR DISADVANTAGED PENSIONERS AND LEARNERSPURPOSE:PROVIDE QUALITY EYE CARE TO SASSA PENSIONERS AND LEARNERS IN SOUTH AFRICAMOST PENSIONERS AND 4 IN 10 SCHOOL CHILDREN HAVE IMPAIRED VISION. THIS REQUIRES PRESCRIPTION SPECTACLES TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE AND ENHANCED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.BACKGROUNDPENSIONERS - There are approximately 3,4 million SASSA pensioners in South AfricaBasic single vision glasses (Reading or Distance) in many instances cost more than their monthly grant.These cost preclude the majority of pensioners from acquiring much needed optometryLEARNERS - It is a proven fact that 4 out of 10 Learners have vision impairments which translate into learning disabilities.Delta Park School: 96 Tested, 37 need glasses, 5 referred.
