Museums - New York, NY, US
The Morbid Anatomy Museum is a non-profit start-up, an institution which strives to bring to light forgotten or neglected histories through exhibitions, education and public programming - topics that are often ignored by larger, more traditional museums. Based in New York City, the Morbid Anatomy Museum hosts the kind of temporary exhibitions that very few larger museums can produce; shows both large and small, drawing on private and public collections and calling on the scholarship and expertise of the greater Morbid Anatomy community. Our permanent collection houses a research library of over 2,000, as well as artifacts such as memorial artworks, medical moulages, wax embryological models, natural history specimens, and a variety of uncanny artworks and objects from around the world. A blog provides a digital exhibition space where scholars and fans alike can access various resources and content. Our lecture series features academics, artists, collectors, morticians, rogue scholars and autodidacts speaking on topics such as wax anatomical models, the history of magic, natural history, and books bound in human skin. In addition, the Morbid Anatomy Museum holds workshops in topics such as anthropomorphic mouse taxidermy, Victorian mourning jewelry, and insect shadowboxes. The Museum also publishes books and produces films. Please help support the Museum by signing up to our newsletter, becoming a member, volunteering, or by donating at our website.
