Design - Margate, England, United Kingdom
The Rag and Bone Man Ltd was launched in 2011 at Tent London as part of the London Design Festival where Designer and maker Paul Firbank established our bespoke business reworking 'scrap with heritage' into original lighting, furniture and accessories for a generation of customers who are passionate about British culture and tradition, contemporary craftsmanship, provenance and sustainability. Our company is now known for our skill in identifying the undervalued and reworking it into something beautiful and functional. Using traditional metalwork techniques and time-honoured machinery Paul transforms vintage machinery, iconic aviation scrap, automotive components and modern metal scrap into beautiful and functional lighting, furniture and statement pieces for individuals, interior designers, restaurants and hotels, architects, set designers and retail. The Rag and Bone Man interweaves the histories and identities of the parts we find into new forms and functions and our brand has now become renowned for our talent in channeling the character and quirks of every component. Our work, skill and the story of our materials connects with a wide audience. Our clients and collectors are global and are predominantly in the luxury sector who enjoy the history of the components we find, the green 'positive' consumer experience in reusing old materials, the talent Paul has in their transformation and the provenance that we offer to collectors through our serial tagging and archive . in 2015 we launched our first foundry range of pendant lighting and our work was celebrated by global brand Heineken through a creative marketing campaign. We have been commissioned as part of several programs for Channel 4 and the BBC and our work regularly features in the press including the Evening Standard, FT How to spend it , GQ, Mens Health and The Telegraph magazine.
