The Reckoner is the award-winning student newspaper of Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. During the school year, The Reckoner publishes regularly on its website and mobile app, and produces a bimonthly printed newspaper which is distributed to the school community.The organization is comprised entirely of dedicated student volunteers: some of the best writers, artists, photographers, designers, and developers of the school. As an independent newspaper, The Reckoner does not receive administrative support of any form from other bodies, including Marc Garneau C.I. and the TDSB, The paper is thus able to operate without risk of censorship or influence by hidden agenda.As of the Fifth Guard (2015-2016), The Reckoner holds staff of size 75. 8 executives are employed: The Editor-in-Chief, the News Manager, the Life Manager, the Editorial Manager, the Media Manager, the Outreach Manager, the Director of Print Development and the Director of Web Development. The Reckoner prides itself on its 100% Original Content Policy. All published content, including software (mobile application) and photography, is the original work of its staff. Elements like stock photography and article illustrations are produced entirely in-house. In 2014, the organization was named Ontario's Best High School Electronic Newspaper and Ontario's Best High School Volunteer Newspaper by the Toronto Star. In 2015, the organization was once again named Best Ontario Electronic Newspaper, and swept a number of category awards, winning the most out of any student paper in the province.
