The Shoe Stories Project is a social initiative to encourage expression, empathy and engagement using a performance platform. The vehicle and initial seed was "Shoe Stories," a song written by composer, Iris Koh, shoes being a metaphor for our journeys and experiences, and that which have carried us physically through our lives. The seed has since grown into an initiative encompassing: (1) an online community (2) workshops and mini performances (3) musical (to come) (4) Shoe Stories book (to come) We aim to use this platform to dialogue on: (i) difficult to discuss topics such as mental health, end-of-life conversations, rights, and inter-generational understanding, and (ii) personal stories that uplift the human spirit. These performances are rooted within both global and local contexts, and address the bigger issues of what it means to be human, to play the myriad roles we do, even what it means to be Singaporean, or to be living in Singapore.Central to our initiative is a partaking in the act of listening. Performers and audience come together in an intimate process of storytelling and singing. Personal narratives match with listening ears, birthing acknowledgement and healing in a safe environment. We hold space for anything that honors the authentic, and we extend our arms to anyone who would like to participate as audience or as performer, for listening and speaking are two sides of the same coin. -----------------------------------------------------CALL FOR STORIES: We are curating stories!
