Our mission is to be a beacon and repository for exploring what consciousness may mean from a scientific and philosophical perspective. Sharing known scientific evidence and what is considered anecdotal evidence about consciousness in animals and plants. To bring being (ontology) and knowledge (epistemology) together. Because without being there is no experience, without experience how would anyone of us begin to understand who we may be, let alone what consciousness is? In the past animals were considered to be non-sentient beings meaning that they were void of consciousness, were instinctual and had no directed feelings or experience that allowed them to make personal choices. As such animals were treated appallingly in the industrial, agricultural and research world. The good news is, in 2012 Cambridge University finally admitted that animals, that is non-human animals are considered to have thoughts. This changes everything! This opens a portal to the possibility that anecdotal evidence may begin to shed some light towards exploring consciousness in animals. Anecdotal evidence that so many animal lovers, ethnologists and the like have experienced. The knowing that their pets and wild animal encounters suggest individual personalities, stories, emotions and thoughts providing a plethora of heart felt relationship that enriches all lives. There will be skeptics and those who believe that science is based soley on what is seen in the physical thus they argue anthropomorphism is merely a projection of our own experience. This may be so, however, anyone who has had a pet cannot dismiss that their animals experience pain, grief, sadness and joy. Globally Indigenous populations describe mythical ideas about the animal world and the deep connections to the natural world. This Society opens dialogue between being and fact. It will discuss consciousness across the natural world, bringing an integral, eclectic approach to what we think animals and plants do!
