The TMJ Association, Ltd. (TMJA) is a nonprofit, patient advocacy organization whose mission is to improve the quality of health care and lives of everyone affected by temporomandibular disorders (TMD).Temporomandibular disorders (TMD), commonly called TMJ, are a complex and poorly understood set of conditions characterized by pain in the jaw joint and surrounding tissues as well as limitation in jaw movements. TMD pain may range from mild discomfort to severe and intractable jaw dysfunction so severe that a feeding tube is necessary for sustenance. It is estimated that approximately 35 million American are affected by TMD at any given time.
