Named after the popular memoir written by Cherry Tigris, the Toilet Paper People Foundation is devoted to the needs of those suffering from the far-reaching wounds of child abuse. Her research and personal experience with regard to the effects of PTSD are quickly gaining the attention of educators and professionals working with high-risk youth. Cherry Tigris has developed a curriculum for the general public that is intended to help bridge the gap between healed and unhealed. "Understanding how to communicate with the wounded is an important part of our evolution as a species," she states. "We are just now beginning to understand how to unwind tragic memories with the hope of creating a new narrative for children and young adults who are desperate to live futures that transcend their painful pasts."
