Our vision is to create a sustainable future for everybody: the environment & the poor & war-affected families.Trees Against Poverty is non-profit platform letting individual & company donors sponsor the planting of trees in North East Syria by IDPs(internally displaced persons) or locals affected by war to impact the environment while creating sustainable livelihoods. Tree sponsors would receive location coordinates of the planted tree and receive a video of the tree getting planted. Furthermore, regular pictures of planted trees will be sent every 6 months to the sponsors by the beneficiary, until the tree is 2 years old. Also, information about the impact of the donation on beneficiaries' families will be reported to sponsors. Our growth plan towards our vision: The project will fight poverty and support the environment by planting 62,000 trees by 2025 in Syria. These trees will reforest 62 hectares, and they will create a source of income to 738 Syrian war-affected families (75% of those families are women and children). These families will be given the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future for themselves and for the environment of their local community. As we grow, we plan to scale and replicate our model in other regions like Egypt and Iraq, places also affected by the war.Why Syria? And Why now?Syria is just coming out of a war and people struggle with their basic daily life needs as there are few to no job opportunities. For those who get work, wages are too low for self-sustenance. For example, teachers, nurses, workers, and provisionals earn only around £1 to £3 per day, and a large number of people in Syria have no source of income. There is little to no care on the ecological side of North East Syria because of the long human and political conflict impact on the region. Al-Hasakah province is approximately as big as Belgium but today, there are almost no trees left.
