U Thant House Myanmar's leading discussion centre on global affairs as well as a small museum dedicated to the U Thant, the third Secretary-General of the United Nations. U Thant House was U Thant's residence in the 1950s and has over the past three years hosted discussions with a wide range of international figures, including former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim, former West Bengal Governor and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Shri Gopal Gandhi, acclaimed writer Amitav Ghosh, India's leading historian Amitav Ghosh, and former Executive Secretary of UN ESCAP Noeleen Heyzer. Myanmar participants have included Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, leading businessmen, civil society leaders and others, and Issues discussed have included peace, the environment and climate change, and human rights and humanitarian action.
