The Washington County Historical Society is the official county historical society for Washington County, PA. The society is responsible for the preservation and administration of the Francis J. LeMoyne House (PA's first National Historic Landmark of the Underground Railroad), the LeMoyne Crematory (the first permanent crematory in the US), and the 18th Century Frontier Fort and Settlement (a recreated frontier fort and settlement). In addition to administering these sites the Historical Society also acquires and preserves documents and artifacts pertaining to the history of Washington County. We boast an approximately 100,000 document archive and a 2,000 volume research library that aid our many historical and genealogical researchers.
