Music - New York, New York, United States
Whirl Time Music (WTM) was the product of verge music culture, experiential education, and the vision to expand music festivals to universities. Embracing the prominence of hip-hop and electronic music within the college demographic and set on enabling students to attend unforgettable shows, WTM's vision was to develop and produce innovative and affordable music experiences on college campuses while featuring globally visible artists. WTM's mission was to support a broader cultural trend towards greater interconnectivity and creativity through those musical experiences. As a company, WTM emphasized hip-hop and electronic as the genres on which it founded its identity not only because they are two of the most groundbreaking and widely celebrated genres of this generation, but also because these two musical forms have a lot in common. Originating in the dancehall/disco club/party scene, the traditions of DJing and dance are paramount in both styles of music: Afrika Bambaataa sampling Kraftwerk, dance remixes of hip-hop songs in the 90s and 00s, and even current and widely-visible hip-hop/electronic collaborations.
