Primary/secondary Education - New Delhi, Delhi, India
We, at, Wisetime are mathematical research organisation. We work on to remove maths phobia in Students. In a traditional class room, a large number of students find it difficult to comprehend abstract and complex mathematical concepts because students are unable to make meaningful real-life connections with mathematical ideas associated with the concept. This results into disliking for maths in the initial stages of learning and eventually culminates to phobia for maths. This happens because students perceive it as : Boring, Hard to understand and non-cramming. To overcome the perception of children the Govt of India has introduced Math Lab for all CBSE schools under education reforms. Math labs have limitations where the children get only informative ideas and not able to have access individually to the tools due to time constraint and limited number of manipulatives. Countries like Singapore, China, Korea and Japan are doing well in the field of Mathematics because of CRA (Concrete Representational Abstract – 3 steps) approach for highly effective teaching math concept (i.e. Touch & Learn Stage, Pictorial and Symbolic stages). In our endeavour to replicate these best practices in teaching of mathematics conforming to the Indian environment (Indian Learning System), we, at Wise time have created a Maths Tools kit which follows CRA approach. It creates interest in learning, children enjoy learning with tools, it is easy to carry and the tool fits into school bag.Over 30,000 students of different schools have been benefited and our efforts have shown encouraging results. Our efforts are on for more research and improvement.
