In 2008, AG Hair started Women Leading Change to help educate girls in Africa.WHY?Women are at the core of AG Hair's business. We feel both passionate and obliged to help women with no other means achieve their potential to create change. Women in sub-Saharan Africa, the most poverty stricken region in the world, suffer immeasurably. The key to ending poverty and injustice in under-developed countries and promoting economic stability is education. WHY GIRLS?In Africa girls are frequently denied access to education because gender-based social norms, such as expectations to carry water, early marriage customs, high adolescent pregnancy rates and traditional roles as caregivers.WHEN GIRLS RECEIVE AN EDUCATION:- The age of first marriage is postponed- child mortality and malnutrition are reduced- smaller, healthier families are formed- knowledge and earnings are reinvested back into their families and communities
