Xobdo Foundation Details
Xobdo, which means both words and sound in the Assamese language, is the first registered organisation in Assam working exclusively on gender, sex and sexuality. Xobdo aims at creating dialogue amongst the youth to uphold the dignity of all persons identifying as LGBTQIA+, thus creating a movement towards an equal society. Xobdo believes in equal opportunities for all people, irrespective of their gender and sexual identities. Through the medium of discussions, film screenings, consultations, and panel discussions, Xobdo aims at breaking the taboos around LGBTQIA+ and create a safe space for the community. The objective of Xobdo is to create dialogue between stakeholders to destigmatize the wrong perceptions about people belonging to marginalized gender and sexual identities, to restore dignity in the lives of the people belonging to marginalised gender and sexual identities and to create a queer activism movement in the local area and engage in the state, regional and national queer activism movement.
