Civic & Social Organization - Nablus, ,
YCC is a non-profit cultural NGO that was formed through an initiative by the Committee for the Defence of Palestinian Refugee Rights. YCC's key objective is to improve the cultural and intellectual conditions of young Palestinians in Balata refugee camp and the surrounding communities. It provides them with a space in which they can develop their talents and skills as well as facilitate their awareness of national rights through civic education, particularly in the areas of democracy and human rights. This is accomplished through a variety of activities and programs that are designed and implemented by trained local staff and distinguished volunteers with substantial international experience. Through this work, YCC aims to develop young generations with a strong and independent identity and induce positive self-accomplishments of local youth. Furthermore it cultivates resilience against the negative effects of the deteriorating living conditions in the camp and the accompanying surge in violence and the on-going Israeli Occupation. YCC was established in 1996 by a group of locals and is based inside the refugee camp of Balata, the most densely populated camp in the West Bank. As such, YCC works toward building a local community that holds firm to principles of freedom and independence and that can assert its legally enshrined rights, most importantly the right of return. YCC also aims to develop the role of women in their local communities, and works to improve their social position by encouraging their active participation in the development of Palestinian society as a whole.
