FCA grew out of civil society's participation in the work that produced the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in 2005, the first modern-day public health treaty. The FCTC requires Parties to adopt a comprehensive range of measures designed to reduce the devastating health, social, economic and environmental impacts of tobacco.With a membership of nearly 500 non-government organisations from over 100 countries, the Alliance is an influential voice for civil society at the FCTC Conference of the Parties.
