GERNIKA LIVES, shot in 1987 is an exploration of the filmmaker's Basque heritage and the tragic events her father, as a young boy experienced during the bombing of Gernika and the Spanish Civil War. Through their violent feuds his trauma and irreparable desolation becomes apparent. Through their struggle to survive and maintain dignity, they discover a closer bond of love and forgiveness.
